Safety in Cincinnati

In order to keep our city safe, here are some initiatives being followed by the Cincinnati Police Department and our community partners.

Walking Patrols

In addition to regular CPD patrols, daily walking patrols have been strategically deployed to ensure visible and proactive policing in high-traffic areas during peak evening hours.

Roving Street Crimes Task Force

CPD launched a new Roving Street Crimes Task Force

  • Staffed by officers from each district’s Violent Crime Squad.
  • Targets emerging crime hot spots using data-driven analysis and advanced technology.
  • Mixture of uniformed and undercover officers.

Scooter and Red Bike Restrictions

To mitigate large gatherings and disrupt street level crime like car break ins, Lime, Bird, and Red Bike rentals are suspended overnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Curfew for Minors

There is a city-wide curfew for minors (all people under 18 years old).

FUSUS Camera Network

CPD is encouraging property owners who have security systems to register them with the City’s FUSUS program, allowing CPD real-time access to additional cameras Citywide. This critical information accelerates investigations and emergency responses. The voluntary camera registration eliminates the need for traditional door-to-door canvassing, freeing up valuable time for police officers. By registering, investigators can quickly identify potential video evidence in specific locations and know who to contact for access.

FUSUS gives officers and all police staff the same live operational picture, collapsing time from signal to response so agencies see more, decide faster and act with confidence through unified visibility, actionable intelligence and rapid response.

Downtown Ambassadors

Ambassadors are trained in public safety, enhanced cleanliness and customer service. Acting as the eyes and ears of Downtown Cincinnati, they patrol downtown Cincinnati seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Ambassadors patrol the streets on foot, cleaning sidewalks and alleys and providing guides, maps and friendly assistance to visitors. The Ambassador team supports the Central Business Section of the Cincinnati Police Department, a community policing program with an additional complement of officers dedicated to the Central Business District and housed at the Welcome Center at The Banks.

The ambassadors are also happy to provide safety escorts to Downtown destinations.

GeneroCity 513

GeneroCity 513 is committed to helping individuals who panhandle because they’re facing tough circumstances like homelessness, addiction, or mental illness. The initiative takes a comprehensive approach, offering hopeful alternatives to panhandling, linking people with vital social services, and delivering hands-on case management to some of the most vulnerable members of downtown Cincinnati’s community.

Additional Public Safety Funding

City Council allocated $2 million from the City’s General Fund Contingency Account to support these initiatives.
