Newport
An entertainment destination that has plenty to offer families, history buffs, or anyone seeking a new adventure!
History of Newport
Newport was established in 1795 and by 1900 was the third largest city in the state of Kentucky. In the 1920s Newport was a hotbed of gambling, speakeasies, and gangsters and had the reputation of Sin City before Las Vegas. The flood of 1937 was the city’s worst natural disaster, which put a large amount of the city under water. In response a flood wall was completed in 1948. In modern times Newport has shed its reputation of the past and is now known for family-friendly attractions like Newport Aquarium in the Newport on the Levee entertainment complex, carrying on Kentucky’s Bourbon legacy at New Riff Distilling and Pensive Distilling Co, and lively festivals like Goettafest.
