Cool places for drinks and bourbon in NKY

Jerry's Jug House

Tucked away in Newport on East 7th Street, you'll find Jerry's Jug House, a cozy bourbon bar and package liquor store that has been serving the East Row neighborhood for over 90 years. Renovated in 2019, Jerry's is open seven days a week and offers a wide selection of cocktails, bourbon, draft beers, and even natural wines.

Grab a seat at the bar and peruse their growing bourbon collection with more than 120 bottles on the shelf. Can't decide? Order a flight. Having been named one of America's Best Bourbon Bars for 2024, the staff will surely be able to guide you in the right direction, whether you're new to bourbon or looking for something a little more complex.

Weather permitting, you can grab a seat on the patio and get nostalgic with one of Jerry's Cherry or Vanilla Coke cocktails - both served in a highball over flaked ice. Whether you're looking to hang out and enjoy your drinks or need to grab something to go, Jerry's Jug House is definitely worth checking out.

Newberry Bros: Coffee and Prohibition Bourbon Bar

If you've been bit by the bourbon bug after your flight at Jerry's, you're in luck. Just a five-minute walk north is Newberry Bros: Coffee and Prohibition Bar. This truly unique spot is not only an award-winning coffee shop and bakery, but it's also home to the Prohibition Bourbon Bar.

Named as one of the "Top Bars in America" by The Bourbon Review, this bar has a Prohibition Era feel to it and the booze to match. You can choose from their selection of over 1,500 bourbons and rye whiskeys. If you need a little break from bourbon, their full bar also offers a wide selection of wines by the glass and craft beer. Be sure to check out the bottle shop where you can walk away with your favorite new spirit - while supplies last, of course.

But, true to its speakeasy nature, you'll have to make sure you're in the right place at the right time. Newberry's is only open Friday and Saturday evenings from 6 - 11 p.m., or for special events that you can find on their website.

Also located at North by Hotel Covington is Knowledge Bar & Social Room. If it's relaxing nightclub vibes you seek, Knowledge has your name on their list. Their cozy couches, marble floors, and gorgeous bar will make you feel like a VIP after a long day.

Knowledge is great not just for the vibes. They also have quite a few exclusive pours, including a bourbon barrel-aged tequila.
