Regional efforts to strengthen relationships and create opportunities with the Chinese community, travelers and residents will be at the forefront this weekend during the Cincinnati USA Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Vibe Speaker Series and Cincinnati Moon Festival, hosted Friday, September 13 and Saturday, September 14, respectively.

“We are actively considering meaningful opportunities to engage with the Chinese community and to pursue potential new growth prospects for our region through tourism and cultural exchange programs,” said Julie Calvert, President and CEO of the Cincinnati USA CVB. “As we work to make Cincinnati a welcoming and inclusive destination for residents and travelers, we are opening the door to new money, talent and possibilities in the Cincinnati region.”

Back for its second year, the Cincinnati Moon Festival is one of the largest celebrations of Chinese culture. This cultural holiday, second only to the Chinese New Year, will be celebrated with various performances, food samples, cultural displays and immersive experiences at Fountain Square from 3-8 p.m. on Sept. 14.

The Cincinnati Moon Festival is the result of a partnership between the Cincinnati USA Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Greater Cincinnati Chinese Cultural Exchange Association (GCCCEA).

“There is a strong Chinese community in Cincinnati, and it is so important to share our cultural identity and have a public presence and representation. Events like the Cincinnati Moon Festival uplift the Chinese community and make our region a vibrant place for people to visit and call home,” said Felicity Tao, chair of the GCCCEA.

New this year, the Cincinnati USA CVB will host the Vibe Speaker Series event, which will feature valuable insights from Nielsen’s newly released 2019 Asian American Consumer Report to better understand the unique preferences of this consumer segment along the path-to-purchase. The event is free to the public and will be held at McCormick & Schmick’s in downtown Cincinnati from 1-3 p.m. on Sept. 13.

The Cincinnati Moon Festival and Vibe Speaker Series are part of the Cincinnati USA CVB’s broadened strategies around diversity and inclusion. These events also support collaborative efforts to connect the Cincinnati region to the world through increased involvement in the global economy.

“Research shows that the Asian American population is the fastest-growing ethnic or racial group in the U.S. and represented a total of $1 trillion in buying power as of 2018,” said Jason Dunn, Group Vice President of Diversity Sales and Inclusion at the Cincinnati USA CVB. “With that in mind, we are intentional about our efforts to connect with the Asian community to gain support, credibility and influence as we work to attract new travelers, conventions and other future opportunities to the Cincinnati region.”

The Cincinnati USA CVB is partnering with the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in pursuit of direct flights to and from China and is also supporting the University of Cincinnati as it strives to increase the Asian student population within its programs. Additionally, the bureau has deepened its relationship with the GCCCEA as a sponsor of the Chinese Railroad Workers Photography Exhibit on display at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County.
